Clive Buckland-Bork
Clive's CV here...
This 'Un-named orchestral piece' is the long-term Opus+ composition I'm working on. It was originally generated sometime ago in November last year as a jazz-funk piece called 'Maximum Funk' but to my ears this material clearly lends itself to an orchestral treatment, so my aim is to work on this piece over a protracted period to bring out its potential, and work entirely without any artificial constraints as my musical intuition dictates. Renditions of the original jazz-funk material and a very simple re-orchestration thereof are available below for the purposes of comparison. It's important to emphasise that this is strictly 'work in progress' and is nowhere near finished!
[Octet Mix as MP3] [Opus+ Original as MP3]
'Synth Pop' is a new orchestration and re-mix of Opus+ generated material I worked on with Adrian using the powerful editing facilities in Apple Logic, but with certain 'compositional constraints'. The rules were that new instruments could be introduced, and the original voices could be shared out 'vertically' between the new instruments; effects such as equalization, reverb, panning and echo where allowed, and it was even permissible to change the octavation of musical fragments, for example if a treble part was moved onto a bass instrument, or drop voices out for a few bars. However, tampering with the actual fragments, moving them horizontally through time, or writing new fragments were specifically disallowed; the constraints we worked within preserved the original order of musical material, so we could clearly hear its musical lineage from Opus+.
